Sawgrass Country Club completed a Master Golf Renovation from 2013 to 2015, enhancing fairways, tees, bunkers, bridges, drainage, cart paths, bulkheads, and irrigation. Led by architect Robert Walker, a protégé of original designer Ed Seay, the project aimed to uphold the club's legacy and elevate its golf experience. The East-West course, which once hosted The Players Championship, remains a premier destination in Northeast Florida.
The East Course, which comprised the front nine of the Championship routing when Sawgrass hosted The Players Championship, is defined by its dramatic landscape. A standout feature is the long par-5 4th hole, which plays back toward the ocean before demanding a daunting tee shot in the opposite direction. This hole is particularly challenging, as the right side is guarded by the Guana Preserve, adding both beauty and difficulty.
The West Course takes players through a diverse mix of holes, initially playing away from the clubhouse before looping back. The highlight of this side is its signature hole—a long par-3 over water—demanding both precision and nerve. The adjacent lake remains a constant presence, shaping the strategy of the final stretch and playing a pivotal role in the closing holes.
The South Course offers wider playing corridors, giving players a bit more room off the tee. However, its strategic bunkering and undulating greens ensure that scoring remains a challenge. A key moment arrives at the par-5 6th hole, which features a stunning peninsula green, making it a thrilling risk-reward opportunity.
